This single-light wall lamp has a simple cylindrical head made from wood and iron, mounted on a round wall plate for a clean, Scandinavian-inspired look. Wood tones bring warmth to bedrooms, reading nooks, home offices and hallways, and the compact size makes it easy to place beside a bed, above a desk or next to a favorite chair. Three designs, labeled A, B and C, let you choose the detailing that suits your room.

Because it uses a plug-in cord rather than hardwiring, you can mount it on a wall without an electrical junction box, making it a handy choice for renters or rooms without existing wiring. A swivel joint between the base and the lamp head lets you angle the light exactly where you need it. It takes one E26 bulb, not included, and works with LED, incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. The lamp measures about 10cm wide and 15.5cm tall.

The lamp is made of wood, iron and acrylic, and the source lists Wood Color and Walnut finishes. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth and use a cord cover to keep the plug-in cable neat along the wall. Let the bulb cool before adjusting the head. Mount a pair on either side of a bed with a linen headboard and woven baskets for a calm, natural bedroom.

• Hardwired fixtures: Ceiling lights, pendants and wired wall sconces should be installed by a licensed electrician in line with local building codes. Plug-in lamps are ready to use with a standard US outlet.
• Outdoor and solar: Place solar panels where they get several hours of direct sunlight a day, and bring delicate pieces indoors during severe weather.
• Mirrors and wall decor: Hang with wall anchors rated for the item's weight, and check the fixings from time to time.
